Value.Some inherently assume that people are born with value but those who understand the disparities in nature would presume that for men value has to be built,established and cushioned from mischiefs, as life is a total oblivion each other day. Men get approved,celebrated,cherished and respected on the grounds of influence. I mean being well off warrants for such approval in the modern society ,you know with money comes positions of influence and the inbuilt power to command respect. It's that simple ,direct and structured in today's world , modern society has somehow constructed a biased stereotype as a weighing scale to determine who among others(men) should tip the scale and who should be a spectator on the same.its a shame.
Bridging value and reality would conflict the whole ideology. The truth of the matter is (according to me)that even if we were to value men on the grounds of how much land one owns,or how many Business and errands one controls it doesn't translate to a perfect mental health state. For men, mental condition would come as a byline in a whole publication,meaning that in the quest to attain societal expectations and necessities, men have seconded their own sanity with manufactured dopamine rush to actualize value. Men do their best to step higher regardless of the terrain they're strolling through ,they go double "extra Mile' to get approved and respected in their own societies which they've been controlling for decades.I call it manufactured disparity.
In kenya and most African nations , men are supposed to do whatever it takes to remain relevant as any sign of weakness would give path to being marginalized and we both know what natural selection is capable off. In such endeavors to build something for oneself ,the modern man has been fed the ideology that neglect yourself and save the world' this "world in most cases refers to family & women. Boy child is expected to struggle,fight against whatever come may, boldly accumulate as much as possible in order to save the world. But why save a world whose interest is materialistic,why go an extra mile and neglect your own self,why create something but fail to have sanity of the mind on how to manage externalities?
Mental sanity matters. Men in kenya are the prime victims of suicide,even worse a research conducted revealed that more than 80% of inmates are men.This justifies the need to lighten the burden for men.In most cases men aren't built to openly show emotions or even open up to spit whatever is happening in their lives that is affecting their being. It rarely happens. In such moments ,the boy child seeks comfort in other things. Some choose to be in solitude and disappear into the abyss,some decide to seek comfort in drugs & substance abuse whereas others gravitate towards depression whose aftermath is suicidal thoughts!Men are on the verge of being blamed for their reaction to societal expectations.its a mess .
The theme for this year mental health month is"community '.As symbolic as it is,a community should be a home ,a place of acceptance and inclusivity,a sense of togetherness and unity in triumph or failure. Communities should be willing to accept &accommodate both men and women regardless of their condition. Nobody should be excluded or even rebuked for their downfalls. Love is all we need as the holy scriptures depicts. Comparatively,men and women ought to exist and champion for each other's mental health in solidarity. Societies need such cohesive forces in order to function effectively and efficiently. There is beauty in unity.
As we champion for each other,let us appreciate the efforts men in particular put to sustain a functional society. Extreme pressure and justification downgrades the cumulative efforts some men have fought for.In the quest to create and emulate value , negligence of mental health isn't appropriate. Bro ongea'for if by talking it out and nothing positive results then we would conclude that the society's fabric needs alot of patches. Men's Mental health matters!For a nations development & families continuity needs men for they are the library of history(iykyk) and through them a tomorrow's community is assured.
